FACEIT ranks every CS2 player with a hidden-in-plain-sight number called ELO, and turns it into a level from 1 to 10. If you have ever wondered why a win only gave you a handful of points, or what ELO you actually need for level 10, this is the full breakdown.
FACEIT level thresholds
Your level is just a band of ELO:
- Level 1: up to 500
- Level 2: 501 to 750
- Level 3: 751 to 900
- Level 4: 901 to 1,050
- Level 5: 1,051 to 1,200
- Level 6: 1,201 to 1,350
- Level 7: 1,351 to 1,530
- Level 8: 1,531 to 1,750
- Level 9: 1,751 to 2,000
- Level 10: 2,001 and above
Notice the bands are not equal. The jump from 9 to 10 is 250 ELO, while 3 to 4 is only 150. The top levels are deliberately harder to climb.
How much ELO you win or lose
ELO is a zero-sum system. Each match, points move from the losing team to the winning team, and the amount depends on how the two teams' average ELO compare. Beat a team rated above you and you gain more than usual; lose to a team rated below you and you drop more. Between two evenly matched teams, a win or loss moves you roughly 25 points.
That is why a streak of wins against weaker opponents feels slow, and why one upset loss can cost you a level you spent a week earning.
Why FACEIT ELO is a stronger signal than matchmaking rank
FACEIT runs a kernel-level anti-cheat and requires a verified account, so it is far harder to cheat or smurf your way up. A high FACEIT level carries more weight than a high Premier rating for that reason. We compare the two anti-cheats in FACEIT anti-cheat vs VAC.
It also makes FACEIT a useful cross-check. A player sitting at red Premier but FACEIT level 3 with plenty of matches is a mismatch worth noticing. It is not proof of anything (some players just play better in one environment), but it is exactly the kind of gap that shows up on accounts that are boosted or assisted in matchmaking.
Current level vs peak level
Like any rating, FACEIT ELO moves around. Someone at level 7 today might have peaked at level 10. When you are sizing up a teammate or an opponent, their best ever ELO tells you what they are capable of, and their current ELO tells you their form.
CSWatch player profiles show FACEIT current and best next to Premier and every Competitive map rank, so you can see the whole picture at once. Try it on any player with the CS2 cheater checker, or read how the in-game systems work in CS2 Premier ranks explained.
